Timber, fibre-cement and plaster need different systems
Weathered timber may need removal of failed paint and priming of bare areas. Fibre-cement and plastered cladding need their own preparation, joint details and compatible coatings. Dark colours must also suit any cladding manufacturer’s restrictions.

Older coatings: assess before disturbing
Older paint can contain lead and older fibre-cement products may contain asbestos. Suspected materials must be assessed before sanding, scraping or washing. Cleaning methods are selected for the substrate; high pressure is not a universal preparation method.

Advice for planning this work
Questions before you book
Does every exterior need stripping back to bare timber?
No. Sound, compatible existing paint may be retained after assessment. Widespread adhesion failure may require more extensive removal, with appropriate controls for old coatings.
Is scaffolding included?
The written quote should identify the access equipment required and whether it is included. The online calculator excludes scaffolding and specialist access because these require site assessment.
Can you repair rotten timber?
Tell us where the damage is. The repair scope depends on its extent; structural timber or weathertightness defects may require a builder or other specialist before painting.
Can I combine exterior and roof painting?
Yes, where both are suitable. A combined assessment can help coordinate protection, access and the work sequence; any savings depend on the actual site.
